FAQs
What does J&M stand for?
J&M is named after St. Jude and St. Matthew, both apostles of Jesus Christ. St. Jude is the patron saint of hope and difficult causes and St. Matthew is the patron saint of personal finances.
How do I get started?
Call or text 608-574-7031, email joseph@jmfinancecoach.com, or fill out the information on the Contact page. We will reach out to set up a consultation.
What’s one thing that makes J&M different from other financial coaches?
J&M believes a life spent in service to others is the best way to live. One important component of service is financial generosity and because of this, J&M proudly donates 15% of all profits to charitable organizations that share our values.
What’s the difference between a financial coach and financial advisor?
A financial advisor is a licensed individual or group of individuals who invest your money to optimize its performance. A financial advisor’s primary focus is on your money’s performance.
A financial coach’s primary focus is on your behavior towards your money. Financial coaches teach people the principles of financial literacy, budgeting, debt management, saving, investing, etc. and then empower them to apply those principles to their financial situations.
J&M’s pricing structure will be provided during your consultation.
Do you have any special deals or promotions?
How often do coaching sessions last and what frequency between sessions do you recommend?
Yes! J&M currently has 10 free passes to Dave Ramsey’s Financial Peace University that we will offer to clients that sign at least three coaching sessions. The course is valued at $99. More information on the course can be found here: https://www.ramseysolutions.com/money/financial-peace
Are sessions in-person or virtual? How far are you willing to drive for in-person sessions?
What kind of financial information needs to be provided to the coach?
Coaching sessions typically last one hour - this is an ideal amount of time to stay focused and dialed in! Most clients do about one session per month. J&M recommends a minimum of at least three to six coaching sessions because financial peace is attained through our habits; and new habits are difficult to develop in less than 90 days.
Sessions can be virtual or over the phone, but are ideally in-person. Joseph is willing to travel about 1 hour from the junction of I-25 and I-225 in Denver, Colorado for sessions.
Prior to your first session, you will be asked to fill out a one-page Personal Finance Snapshot that includes basic questions on income, savings, consumer debt, housing, and what you hope to gain from coaching. Aside from these basics, it’s up to you how much you want to share with the coach. Although you’re free to bring financial documents along to sessions for you and the coach to review, the coach will never ask you for copies of your personal financial documents.
How much do coaching sessions cost?
Who do you coach?
J&M provides coaching services to individuals and couples who are serious about achieving financial peace and living generously. We coach a wide variety of people: from high school-aged students to newly-married couples to seniors in retirement.
Do you have an office location?
J&M does not have an office location so in-person coaching sessions are typically held in library study rooms, coffee shops, or even parks if it’s nice enough out!
I only speak Spanish or another language besides English. Could you still accommodate me?
English is the only language Joseph speaks, so he would be willing to give coaching sessions a shot if you provide a translator.
